Guinness World Records has just certified a window that is constructed largely from Accoya® wood, as the biggest wood and metal window in the world! With certified Class 1 durability and numerous green credentials, Accoya® wood was the natural choice of material for Mr Rüdiger Baumann, of Baumann Holzhandel GmbH, when he commissioned students from the German Academy for Glass, Windows and Cladding to construct the largest window last month.

Between 20 and 24 June 2010, the World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE) was held in Riva del Garda, Italy. A prestigious date in the timber calendar, this biennial event brought together key representatives from countries with a strong background in timber building. As an established producer of Accoya®, a high technology wood that is experiencing an increased amount of international enquiries for use in external structural applications, Accsys Technologies PLC exhibited Accoya® at the conference to offer expertise in production techniques and sustainability within the timber industry.

Accoya®, the world’s leading high technology wood from Accsys Technologies, is featured in a variety of uses in a unique, sustainable garden which has won a coveted Silver Medal at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. The garden, entitled ‘Places of Change’, is a collaboration between national housing and regeneration delivery agency the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the Eden Project, national membership charity for frontline homelessness agencies Homeless Link, and Communities and Local Government (CLG).

Accsys Technologies PLC is delighted to announce the appointment of John Alexander as Head of Product Development. John joins Accsys from BSW Timber, the UK’s largest sawmilling business, where he was Head of Business Development and led the research and planning that resulted in Accoya® wood’s successful introduction to the UK market. John received a bachelor’s degree in wood science from Bangor University in Wales and a master’s degree in wood science from the University of Maine, USA, where he was graduate student of the year 2000.
