Northern Ireland based concrete products manufacturer Acheson & Glover has won a prestigious contract to supply paving and retaining wall products to Gardening Inside Out (GIO), the buying group arm of the Garden Centre Association of Ireland. With 45 garden centre members, the Association also runs a buying group for 16 committed garden centres located throughout Ireland.

Leading concrete and brick manufacturer Acheson & Glover has been commended for its innovative approach to meeting the needs of tomorrow’s workforce and the way it manages talent within the company. Presented with two ‘highly commended’ awards at the recent Irish News Workplace & Employment Awards in Belfast recently, Acheson & Glover, along with other high profile organisations, was congratulated by Department of Employment & Learning Minister Sir Reg Empey for its success in placing a firm emphasis on individuals and its positive contribution to the Northern Ireland workplace.

Reflecting its success in securing multi-product orders from contractors, Acheson & Glover – the fast expanding Irish-based concrete products group – is planning its biggest presence to date at this year’s Interbuild. The company’s stand (D60 Hall 5) will feature precast, hollowcore flooring, structural precast, architectural panels, retaining walls –including its Anchor system – brick and Novabrik – the mortarless brick cladding system. Also on show will be the company’s extensive paving range, including the new Plaza and Riverstone ranges.

Gateshead Housing Company is using Novabrik, the dry-built brick cladding system from Acheson & Glover Group, in trials to assess its suitability for the external refurbishment of its stock of Airey-type, PRC [prefabricated reinforced concrete] houses. Airey houses were a feature of the post war building boom. Their prefabricated, reinforced concrete columns support ship-lap concrete panels and give the houses their characteristic appearance.

Design and Build Contractor, Merlin Timber Frame Ltd has used Novabrik, the mortarless, brick cladding system for an affordable, eco-friendly housing development in Somerset.The development, built for Falcon Rural Housing – the housing association for Sedgemoor District Council, provides seven, 2/3 bedroom homes for local residents of the pretty village of Nether Stowey near Bridgewater.

Acheson & Glover, the rapidly expanding construction materials manufacturer, has bought the Finlay Breton business from Readymix plc, part of the global Cemex Group. The multimillion-pound acquisition means that Acheson & Glover is now one of the biggest construction materials manufacturers in Ireland. Significantly, it also gives them an important manufacturing facility in England and a commercial base in Scotland.

Work is well underway on the first major housing project to feature Novabrik – the mortar-less brick cladding system from Acheson & Glover Group - designed to enable faster, more cost effective construction compared to traditional brickwork. The development of more than 50 townhouses, semis and detached homes is being built on a site at Dungannon, Northern Ireland. Since work started last year, two blocks of six town houses and two detached homes have been finished.
